Project Description
The Fortified Church of Viscri dates back to the 13th century and is a real jewel. The church was included in the UNESCO heritage. From the wooden gate and the fruit trees garden that surround it, from the stone steps that have been destroyed by the heavy winters to the church museum, everything looks like a few centuries ago. The church practically takes your breath away.
The church dates back to 1100 when a small church with one hall and a semicircular apse was built. The church was taken over by the Saxon settlers around 1185. The eastern side of the church was rebuilt in the 14th century and the first fortifications with towers were added in 1525. The church was surrounded by a second defensive wall in the 18th century. A covered corridor for corn storage was built after 1743.
